Working out what to pack for a vacation rental is harder with a big group, because nobody knows what the house has and everyone brings a spare of everything. Our homes are stocked. Here’s what’s already there, what to bring, and what to leave at home.
What’s already at every Volta home
Sleeping. Hotel-quality linens on every bed, extra pillows and blankets, a Pack ‘n Play and a high chair.
Bathrooms. Bath towels, hand towels, and pool towels. Hand soap and starter toiletries to get you through the first night.
Kitchen. Pots, pans, baking trays, a coffee maker, dishes and glasses for the full guest count, and a dining table that seats ten or more.
Laundry. Washer, dryer and detergent, free to use. Handy on a week-long stay with kids.
Outside. Grill, outdoor seating, yard games (cornhole, Giant Jenga, Connect 4), pool and hot tub at three of the four homes.
Tech. High-speed Wi-Fi, Smart TVs in every bedroom, a projector at Patio Paradise, arcade cabinets at Cascade and Patio Paradise.
Entry. Keyless entry with a code sent the day before. No handover, no lockbox hunt.
What to pack for a vacation rental with a group
- Swimsuits and sunscreen — the pool is the first stop after check-in
- Groceries — or plan a store run on the way from the airport; every home is on a quiet residential street with a supermarket a few minutes away
- Grill fuel — check the listing for whether your home’s grill is gas or charcoal
- Your own toiletries beyond the starter supply
- Pool floats for the kids
- Dog bed and bowls if your dog is joining you at The Agora, Sylvan’s or Cascade
- Phone chargers — you’d be surprised
- A printout of the room assignments so nobody argues in the driveway
What not to bring
Speakers. Every home has a noise monitor and quiet hours from 10pm to 8am. The indoor sound bars are plenty.
Extra people. The guest count on the booking is firm. It’s a house rule and a city rule.
Glass for the pool deck. Cans and plastic only.
Packing tips for twelve people
Split the group into “kitchen,” “pool,” and “kids” and have one person per group own that list. It stops six people bringing sunscreen and nobody bringing coffee. Send the list in the group chat a week before, and check the listing photos — they show what’s in the game room and the backyard, which answers most of the “should I bring…” questions.
